Today at Harriet Alexander Nature Center we learned how to identify Maple trees, and then how to tap them to collect the sap to later make maple syrup.
Drilling the hole to access the growth layers of the tree. |
Pounding in the spigot. |
A successfully tapped tree. The blue bags help to shield the sap from the sun's rays. |
This crew is responsible for 12 tapped trees at the Nature Center. |
My favorite part was the maple popcorn because it was really fun helping making it and is was so good. It was also fun playing with my friends like the word search some people thought is was a race.
